While child safety is absolutely a priority, requiring daycares to provide EpiPens for every child they are licensed to enroll places an unreasonable financial and administrative burden on small childcare centers. EpiPens are costly, expire quickly, and must be replaced regularly. Many centers already operate on extremely tight budgets, and this mandate could force programs to raise tuition or close altogether, reducing access to childcare for families.
Additionally, medical needs should be addressed through individualized care plans. Families already provide prescribed medications for their children, along with physician authorization and training specific to that child. A blanket requirement does not account for children with no history of allergies and shifts responsibility away from parents and healthcare providers onto childcare programs
