As a home daycare provider, I oppose the requirement to stock EpiPens. They are expensive, expire quickly, and require ongoing staff training and recertification, all of which raise costs for both providers and parents. Staffing challenges make additional requirements even harder to manage.
There is also significant liability in administering medication that isn’t prescribed for a specific child. Insurance costs could increase, and providers risk making medical decisions without clear guidance.
A safer and more practical approach is for parents of children with known allergies to supply their child’s EpiPen, as some already do in my daycare. This ensures the medication is appropriate and reduces unnecessary burden on home daycare providers.
