This bill distracts from the real issues that are impacting women’s sports and bathrooms.
We’re so far from gender equality in sports. Let’s talk about how women’s athletes are paid far less than men and how women athlete are given far fewer resources. Instead of targeting a handful of transchildren who are not even necessarily great athletes. Let’s actually enhance women’s sports by offering equity in payment, coaching, and funding.
As a former college athlete on a women’s team, so much of the language infuriates me. It denies the real issues that impact women’s athletes. And the emphasis on “biological advantage” denies the reality that many women are far superior athletes to men. Athleticism is not just about physical strength. It’s also about socialization and intelligence. Please stop saying that women are inferior to men.
A larger question about sports access what are we trying to teach our children about sports. Is the goal just to win? Or is the goal to teach our children to build camaraderie and learn from teammates who might be different than they are? I truly hope it’s the latter.
Yes let’s fix security in bathrooms. Get better bathroom doors! I have seen bathroom violence - it was all “biological women” attacking other “biological women”. No law protects perpetrators from causing harm. What would make me feel safer in bathrooms are doors that actually close and can’t be seen through! Could we please get bathroom doors like those in Europe? Ones that close completely and are able to lock (for real- not that stupid lock that flies open if someone closes another door hard).
There are so many issues in this country. There’s been a lot of energy targeting less than 1% of the population and distracting us from real issues.
