Adult Transgender and transgender young people are at greater risk for depression, self harm and suicide than their peers. Sadly this is not the result of their gender identity. Instead, it is brought on by experiences of bullying, rejection, and discrimination. These incidents are on the rise as many politicians try to use transgenders as a pawn in a horrible game.

We need to confront this public health crisis by combatting stigma, advance trans-inclusive policies and practices, and work to increase access to support systems that help transgender young people build a sense of belonging.

The impact on our youth is both clear to and is presently dire. Plus, the long lasting effects of these kinds of unwarranted efforts will stunt and even damage our community growth for treats to come!

In addition, Local schools and athletic associations have already been successfully managing programs that balance fairness with inclusion for years.  

I urge you to listen to subjects matter experts before creating overreach mandates that harm young people and help no one.
