I am writing as a resident of Falls Church Virginia and patents of children who have attended Virginia public schools to REJECT petition 432. 

Transgender and nonbinary young people are already at greater risk for depression and suicidality than their peers, not because of their gender identity, but because of increased experiences of bullying, rejection, and discrimination. 

The misdirected focus on trans youth in sports is a purposefully divisive issue and is damaging to young people who are already facing difficult social and emotional issues.

Rather than exacerbate the issue, we must combat stigma, advance trans-inclusive policies and practices, and work to increase access to support systems that help transgender and nonbinary young people build a sense of belonging.

Local schools and athletic associations have already been successfully managing programs that balance fairness with inclusion for years.  I urge you to listen to subjects matter experts before creating overreach mandates that harm young people and help no one.

We need to make rule of law that is fact based and constructive.  Reject Petition 432.
