I have lived in Virginia my entire life and I strongly oppose petition 432. This petition has absolutely nothing to do with locker rooms, bathrooms, or anything else that is currently under fire from the "oh so dreaded" trans people. All it aims to do is harmfully label already an extremely marginalized group of people and further the discrimination they face in their day to day lives.
Even if you personally cannot agree with the choices of trans people, these sorts of petitions and acts hurt everyone. Yes, even you. Aimlessly labeling people as male or female based on attributes such as blood hormone levels, genitalia, or even appearances have and will continue to harm all women. The nature of the human body is to have variance, and that includes variety in facial and bone structure, hormonal levels, and even genitalia appearance. With labels and identification to prevent trans women from participating in sports like this petition wants to introduce, there will be biological women who are mislabeled based solely on factors outside of their control. Once we start barring one group from sports, there will be others barred as well, and sports are for all to enjoy. We should not be preventing people from playing based on gender identity.
I urge you all to oppose harmful petitions such as this one to protect the games we all enjoy and protect the family and neighbors we share those sports with. There will be other petitions just like this one postulating to further the damage being done to the transgender community and my heart goes to you all in hopes that you will stand on the right side of history. Transgender people have always been on this planet and they will remain on this planet despite the laws and acts politicians try to pass in order to eradicate them.
Please reject petition 432.
Sincerely,
Miles
