I oppose this petition.

The Department of Health serves to protect the health and promote the well-being of ALL people in Virginia - that does and will always include trans people. This petition is not about safety - it is about furthering a narrative of hate and fear and discrimination against trans people. Furthermore, the implementation could endanger both trans and cis people to invasive testing and evaluation of their bodies as well as enable opponents abusing doubts about an athlete’s gender to target harassment at them. 

This petition is a distraction from real problems. Trans people are underrepresented in sports - they are 1-2 percent of the population, but only 0.001-0.002 percent of college and Olympic athletes. Media coverage paints an unrealistic picture of the number of trans people in sports. I rather law and policy makers focus on addressing the inaccessibility and high costs of healthcare.
