As a mother of one male college athlete here in Virginia and a daughter who is also set on playing college athletics, this topic has been a concern and directly impacts our family.
I have studied a lot of scientific research over the past couple of years about this debate, it boils down to biology. Both my children play golf, one the son at the college level and one daughter now in high school, aiming to play at the college level.
If you have ever played golf, there are women's, men's, junior, and senior tees. They are there for a reason. Let that sink in.
My daughter has competed against her brother and male athletes in golf her entire life and currently is the only girl on a co-ed boys team here in Richmond, VA. It is physically impossible for her to reach the yardage the boys due without playing from the women's tees. This is basic biology based on the strength of the hips, the dimensions of the pelvis, and rotation. Everyone in this fight for female spaces has a lot of data and knowledge about the biological differences, I urge you to pay attention to that.
Also, as a female who had to pay on a boys' soccer team as a young girl, I can tell you that as a former feminist, we fought hard to have all-female spaces. The right to have our own spaces, locker rooms, roster spots, college, and athletic scholarships should not be taken away. You are erasing women if you do so. Please do not erase our hard-fought spaces and rights.
Everyone deserves a chance to play. If there is not a co-ed team, the child or adult needs to play or join their original sex as they were born.
It is not discrimination, it is discriminating against our daughters and women.
