Please continue to move Licensure for Art Therapists in Virginia forward. I support the requirements for licensure as written to begin issuing much needed licenses in VA. Licensure provides protection to clients and the public for legitimate art therapy services by credentialed and licensed providers. Title protection provides assurance to art therapists that their work is valued and protected ethically with minimum professional dispositions and standards. I support annual continuing education as stated in the regulations and consistent with other licensed professions. I am aware that the ATCB revises policies regularly, as such, the standards as written are aligned based on the ATCB standards written at the time the licensure standards were composed. As the Art Therapy Advisory Board moves forward, a systematic process of review and updating standards at a reasonable schedule can be established. It is most important to begin licensing art therapists with the standards as written, which are clear and proficient for determining who meets requirements for licensure.
