I realize nursing license fees have not been increased since 2011 and that they vary widely from state to state. Increasing the initial licensure fee to $315 and renewal fee to $230 is almost double. Work related expenses (clothing, shoes, stethoscopes, attending conferences, nursing organization fees, certification, etc.) are no longer tax deductible. This places an undue financial burden on us, especially with the skyrocketing costs of daily living.  I encourage the board to vote NO on this proposal. I understand Virginia participates in the NLC. If you must increase the fee, then maybe have a separate cost structure for nurses who only work in the state of Virginia versus nurses who want multi-state privilege.
