I am writing in support of the proposed draft regulations for optometrists to perform laser procedures. Optometrists are educated, trained and certified to perform the procedures outlined in the regulations, which were developed with input from optometry and ophthalmology and should be supported as presented. Certification includes extensive clinical experience, complete hands-on training and passing a national certification exam. More than 146,000 procedures have been performed by optometrists across the country and limiting optometrists scope of practice in VA only limits patients access to care.
