To whom it may concern:
I'm writing to request that The Department of Corrections change its policy and stop shackling female prisoners while giving birth. The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Medical Association and the UN have condemned the practice due to health risks. The children who are being born into this kind of situation have enough challenges right from the start; a risky labor is the last thing they or their mothers need.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Rev. Melody Porter
