It is clear for many reasons that the current level of industrial fishing for menhaden in the Chesapeake Bay is too high to be sustainable. Industrial fishing operations must be incentivized and/or forced to move to the Atlantic Ocean to allow the Chesapeake Bay to recover its depleted menhaden stocks. This is essential for a healthy bay; viable species that depend on menhaden for food, and watermen who depend on menhaden for bait.
