Hello - I am writing to express my support for this petition regulating purse seine usage. These purse seine nets aren't being used as designed (i.e. they aren't designed be used in water shallower than 60 feet, otherwise non-targeted marine life cannot escape). Furthermore, the use of these nets in water shallower than 60 feet can cause damage to essential fish habitat. Depth restrictions will help avoid nets spills, net tears, and waste of the resource – which is beneficial for all stakeholders. Menhaden are an important forage for many other fish, like striped bass, that help support economies up and down the east coast. They should be thoughtfully regulated and protected.  Thank you in advance.
