Radiology Practitioner Assistant Society
Request for amendment to include Qualified Radiologist Assistant
To Whom It May Concern;
It has been brought to the Radiology Practitioner Assistant Society’s (RPAS) attention that previous law passed in 2009 for the Virginia Radiologist Assistant, is up for public comment in regards to regulations. We oppose the current language of this law. As previously stated by Jayson Barrett, president of the Society for Radiology Physicians Extenders (SRPE); we would like to support a request for amendment to include the Radiology Practitioner Assistant under the one unified name as “Qualified Radiologist Assistant” so that these individuals working in the state may continue to provide radiology services, and create a future pathway for all radiology physician extenders to practice in Virginia.
Many states are recognizing both individuals as a practicing entity; for example California and Texas will produce a dual bill this session. By unifying the RPA and RA under one name as a radiologist assistant, this helps to simplify both professions. In working together, the RPA and RA will progress the profession, by bringing these two groups together to help improve and maintain the quality of care patients receive!
We look forward to supporting the Radiology Practitioner Assistants and SRPE’s efforts in Virginia. Should you have any question or concerns we would be more than willing to assist you.
Respectfully,
Marcelene Compton RT R, RPA
