Oppose SB656

Given the bill’s deliberate vagueness on what “sexually explicit content” is, I oppose SB656 on the grounds that this is nothing but an attempt at censorship under the guise of parental choice. The Governor and state Representatives should butt out on issues that they have no expertise on. Parents who haven’t abdicated their responsibilities and are fully involved in their children’s lives are perfectly capable of deciding what’s best for them and communicating that to their children’s teachers without the interference of any government entity. My own parents didn’t need  Governor Dalton or Governor Baliles to hold their hand whenever they had an issue with the education I was receiving when I was a student in Virginia’s public school system. And even though English wasn’t their first language, they were perfectly capable of informing my teachers and school administrators what their parental choices for me were.
