Each child belongs foremost to their parents and thus parents have the responsibility and the right to guide and direct their child's exposure to sexually explicit content. Any such content in public school education should be clearly set apart, identified, and communicated to parents for parental consent. Guidelines to flesh out practically how we can uphold parental rights is a must. Intent to uphold parental rights with no policies and procedures is blowing smoke. We were told we had the right to review all family life education content in Arlington County, but when we arrived to do so, Arlington County School Board said they did not have special FLE curriculum but that it was up to each teacher's discretion how and when it was taught. Handling FLE this way bypasses the need for parental communication and consent -- this is deceptive.
