The language in SB656 is simply a way to utilize fear-mongering in attempt to scare parents into preventing their child from obtaining important sex education. Sex education already requires parental consent. Further preventing and restricting the material teachers have access to, or what they are allowed to teach only serves to undo that has been proven to prevent unwanted pregnancies and therefore abortions.

In addition, it’s no coincidence the mass exodus of teachers and school staff currently happening is related to the increased censorship, control, and demand we put on educators. However, their wages remain stagnant with no support from parents, administration, or government officials. Passing a bill like SB656 will only further restrict and alienate our already extreme shortage of teachers and school staff.

I implore you to go to any school district’s job postings site to see the literal several hundreds if not thousands of vital open positions. And it being only weeks before the school year begins again. I find that a more urgent issue than censoring public education.
