There is far too much room for interpretation here, making it so that many of our great works of literature and art will be limited in their accessibility to students. Is that what we've come to? Literal book banning so that we can control and limit what our children learn in order to indoctrinate them? This is public school--if parents want so much control over what their children are learning then they should be the teacher themselves and homeschool. I expect my child to have access to the great works of art and literature. I don't want him to only be able to read Blues Clues til he's 18. If we try to shield our children from hearing about these things, they will still see it on TikTok or Netflix. But if they can learn about it in a safe environment from a teacher among peers who can discuss how it makes them feel, then they won't be left going down some Google rabbit hole to find even scarier information about it. We're just making it harder for teachers to do their jobs, reducing the number of quality teachers in the school system.
