I strongly oppose Senate bill 656

I strongly oppose Senate bill 656. I am a parent of three public school graduates who are also avid readers. Each of my kids talked to school librarians, teachers, other students, and their parents and family members to get reading recommendations. I do not want socially regressive adults who know nothing about children’s literature to have a say about what other children should have access to in books. Senate bill 656 is especially dangerous for Black, Indigenous, and students of color, as well as student in the LGBTQ+ community because some parents are apt to erroneously classify anything other than heterosexual expressions of love as explicit. Let the professionals do their jobs, and advise parents who have issues with sexual content to pre-read book before they let their children read it.
