All medical concerns aside, removing an individuals’ right to religious exemption is a dangerous removal of our constitutional right to freedom of religion. It is not within the right of the state to remove these rights, which the state of California is having to answer to now by paying millions of dollars to churches for violating their right to religious freedom.
The town of Blacksburg and state of Virginia would be opening themselves up to endless lawsuits and an even larger teacher shortage than they’re already facing. Other states and cities who have made similar attempts are facing financial and staffing consequences.
It is up to the individual teachers, students, and parents whether they are comfortable getting the vaccine based on their religious and medical decisions. This parent who submitted this can home school their child if they are really that concerned. That is a much simpler solution that won’t end in law suits for an attempt at violating religious freedoms of thousands of other families.
