Please Pass The Poultry Litter Regulation

I am writing as both a concerned citizen and a member of the Potomac Riverkeeper Board of Directors.  The purpose of my e-mail is to offer my support for the proposed poultry waste abatement regulations.  Although I am a fisherman, my main concern is with the water quality in the Shenandoah River watershed, as it is a major tributary to the Potomac River.  The Potomac is where the water that my wife and I, and our daughters and their families, consume every day here in Maryland.  If the Shenandoah River is polluted, then the Potomac is polluted.  Hence my intense interest in water quality.

Since unregulated poultry waste is a major contributor to the pollution in the Shenandoah River watershed, it stands to reason that tighter regulations regarding the storage, transport, and use of poultry waste are clearly needed; that these regulations should apply to all poultry waste.  It is also critical that any regulations, current or future, be properly enforced or they are essentially worthless.

Thank you for your time,
