Guidance Document Change: The 2020 Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 753 directing the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) to develop guidance standards for social emotional learning (SEL) for all public students in grades Kindergarten through 12 in the Commonwealth. The Virginia Social Emotional Learning Standards were developed in collaboration with an SEL Advisory Committee, composed of educators, community leaders, agency personnel, and parents. The Virginia SEL Standards are aligned with the Profile of a Virginia Graduate and centered in equity. This intentional focus allows the Standards to explicitly teach the skills needed to be “life ready” and to create more equitable learning environments.

SEL ok in concept this standard is way off and a dangerous overstep of the school

Some of the ideas seem alright. Although none of the SEL is appropriate to be implemented in this manner by teachers in the schools. But, read the "social awareness" section for each grade. Surprise, SEL couldn't escape baking in the political zeitgeist of today. SEL standards turn out to be just another way to manipulate our children, divide our students, and promote unrest in society so they may be more easily controlled. Read through the "social awareness" section. Any thinking person, if they are being honest, will understand that this is not the way to promote social and emotional health in our children, and will understand that this approach will actually result in the opposite of acceptance. This SEL standard document is very flawed, and it is very scary that this could become part of curriculum. Please vote this down.
