Commenter: Bradley Conlin - Medical Student / Former Paramedic

Is a pandemic the right time to lower payments to hospitals?

I am a medical student, former paramedic, former active duty army special operations medic. I have worked in emergency medicine for several years. Emergency Departments are the entry point into the medical system for many people, including those who are uninsured or underinsured. Medicare and medicaid payments to Emergency departments are already significantly lower than that of regular insurance. Stating that emergency situations are "preventable" is wrong and you know it. I hope we are entering a new phase of American democracy where politicians are held accountable for their actions, but even if you are not held accountable, you will always be accountable to your own conscience.
