I installed solar panels on my home/business in 2015 and have been very happy with them. As a solar owner, I save on my energy bills, support a local Virginia business, and have the freedom to generate my own energy. Virginia's Energy plan should expand incentives for customer-owned ‘rooftop’ solar and eliminate barriers to its growth. I believe that solar panel users should pay to support the electric grid, so a different pricing model may be the best option for that.
Incentives like net metering let solar customers like me easily track and get fair credit for the solar energy we produce. Arbitrary limits like standby charges and system size limitations discriminate against solar producers and limit solar job creation.
I respectfully urge you to expand rooftop solar in Virginia to create well-paying jobs, build clean, local energy into our communities and give consumers energy choice and freedom.
