support for strong climate action

With miles of coastline and acres of National forest and parklands, Virginia’s long term vitality depends on addressing the ever-increasing threats posed by Climate Change. It is imperative that the State take action to protect our economic, environmental and public health interests.

Virginia needs to set the strongest possible standard to cut emissions from power plants through participation in a carbon market.

I support a final standard adopted by the DEQ to cap and reduce carbon emissions with a 2020 base year emissions cap between 30 and 32 million tons. This standard should also cover biomass facilities which are tremendous polluters, and continue annual reduction through year 2030.

It is urgent that these standards be enacted as quickly as possible.
