Currently children receive 2 absences per month up to 24 for the year. As an Accounts Administrator of a child care center, I see this is not enough. We are a full time facility, as is most the centers in our area. Once absences are used for the year, parents are required to pay out of pocket for their absences. Many struggle to make that payment.
We have children with health conditions that result in long hospital stays for treatments, etc. The current number of absences allowed doesn't begin to cover what they need. This needs to be changed. Absences shouldn't be limited for any of the kids. Sickness happens as does other things that keep them out of the center.
Many children are withdrawn from child care centers because the parents can't afford to pay once absences are used up. Ideally, unlimited absences would be the answer; however, if not unlimited absences raise the number to 4 or 5 absences for per month. I understand that there are people who take advantage of the system, but the parents who truly need these extra absences are the ones losing out in the end.
