Oppose Regulation Change

I graduated in 2010 from Johns Hopkins University with a MS in Counseling. Our program, although "CACREP compatible" was not accredited. I am a licensed counselor in Maryland. I'm very concerned about the portability of my license, that is, my ability to be licensed in other states, should my family choose to move. We are at an awkward stage in the development of our profession, fighting for national recognition and comparable treatment with licensed social workers. I understand the value that uniform licensing standards might bring to that fight. However, I think that goal shoudl be met in a manner that assures that professionals who have graduated from excellent programs and practiced to high standards in they state where they were originally licensed can continue to practice throughout this country. Limiting licensure to CACREP, as currently structured, only excludes highly-qualified professionals at a time when many populations are underserved for mental health. I ask that the new regulation not be adopted.
