I believe you were correct in your originial ruling: were right -- "An expired ID is a valid ID." Not every form of acceptable ID has an expiration date (including as I understand the new state-provided photo ID), so why are we creating burdens for those who rely on identification from one of the forms that do? This will place an undue burden on the elderly, the disabled, and the poor who may have difficulty getting to the DMV or the post office their current photo ID renewed or to the Registrar to get a state-issued photo ID.
