I am a 55 year old woman who, while residing in VA in 1992 and trying to conceive a child, mis-carried. I was working with a Reproductive Specialist (Dr.) and had a general physician. Both refused to perform a D and C on me when the fetus was found to be without a heartbeat at 14 weeks. I discovered this sad news on a Friday and was sent home to "pass the fetus" over the weekend by myself. I also had to collect the specimen for genetic studies to understand why I wasn not able to carry to term. I was told by both physicians that they did not perform abortions. Had I had the support of a Women's Clinic, such as Planned Parenthood, I might have been spared the pain and suffering I endured.
While I appreciate a physician's particular personal position, I was left effectively without care and had to perform a sad task that left a strong impression on me that the care of the patient should take always take precedence over others personal position.
