I am the adoptive mother to a child who was severely injured as a baby. She struggles with basic concepts and keeping herself safe. She requires constant supervision, even at the age of 15 and will continue to do so. We have two attendants and have faced cuts in hours. My husband, a former nurse, is her primary caregiver but as her EOR, I spend 10-20 hours a month just on unpaid administrative tasks. By removing independent service facilitators, you take away another voice, which my child will never have for herself and you unjustly put more of a burden on her caretakers, my husband and myself. My 15 year old will never drive, never attend an appointment alone, never be able to cook herself a meal or count change in a supermarket. She will require more than 56 hours a week in care. If anything happens to my husband or myself, she will need lifelong intensive care from people who are unwilling to provide their time and effort for free. Please stop adding to our burdens and provide real and genuine help for families who are drowning.
