Remain in RGGI

Not only does RGGI support Virginia's carbon reduction goals, but it also funds programs that help Virginians withstand the impacts of climate change. Importantly, half of those funds go to creating and preserving energy efficient and affordable low-income and special needs housing and also to repairing homes to make them eligible for weatherization. The money for these programs is twice what exists elsewhere in Virginia for advancing energy efficiency. Making homes more energy efficient makes them healthier and safer. It reduces household energy bills and energy burden. And it reduces carbon emissions. A decision to leave RGGI disregards the well being of the many Virginians that these programs help. And it ignores the clear climate science which calls for a rapid decarbonization of our economy to avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis.
