RGGI provides Virginia consumers with an improved market signal regarding the cost of greenhouse gas pollution. In a market economy, we rely on such market signals to guide individual actors towards choices that benefit both themselves and society at large. Consumers who wish to avoid the marginal cost of RGGI may seek ways to reduce electricity use. With few exceptions, that benefits everyone. We need more of these market signals to help create a climate-friendly economy or we all will pay far greater sums in response to climate disasters. Stay in RGGI!
