This proposed legislation is regressive and dangerous. Our culture overall, and our schools in VA specifically already limit what children can be taught far too much, leaving them to spend their adulthood filling in the gaps. Nothing about this bill protects children - quite the opposite. It directly puts them in danger by refusing them accurate, objective information about their own bodies, and about the nature of relationships they will one day have. If we want children to be able to grow into adults with healthy relationships, they have to know what those look like - yes, even if that means teaching them about sex. We also want children to be able to understand what is and isn't ok for them to be asked or expected to do. This is already such a struggle for so many young adults, why would we make it more difficult by refusing them a proper education so that they can be better prepared to make informed decisions about what is right for them? 

Refusing to teach children about sex or sexual relationships in all forms doesn't protect them. It leaves them vulnerable to be taken advantage of, harassed, othered and ashamed.
