| Description | These regulations are presented as a guide outlining the requirements for a plan for constructing local correctional facilities including submission procedures, sequence, and timing of events and the criteria for and details of the jail project through planning, design, materials, construction, and reimbursement stages. These Standards establish the minimum requirements applicable to projects requesting reimbursement for new construction, replacement, expansion, or renovation.These Standards present a comprehensive concept of “systems planning” to assist localities to plan for in the development or improvement of local or regional correctional services including facilities and pre-and-post trial alternative programs. |

| Goals of Regulation | To update the current 6 VAC15-80 which was originally issued in May of 1994 and since issuance there have been significant changes in the Code of Virginia, building and fire codes as well as audit standards for the construction of local correctional facilities. Technological advances allow for changes in facility staff and management which impact the facility physical plant. |
