Oppose action 4905

I live in Charlottesville, Virginia and I oppose Action 4905.

I actively participate in women's sports, and my experience has been vastly improved by the presence and contributions of trans women. The transgender athletes I have played with have been incredibly supportive and are an important part of my community.

As a cisgender female athlete, I don't want to live in a world where women athletes are under constant scrutiny regarding our bodies. This makes me feel much more unsafe than playing alongside transgender women ever has.

Transgender individuals have disproportionately high rates of suicide. Implementing policies that socially isolate and ostracize these vulnerable people and subject them to discrimination and heightened scrutiny when they are already at such a high risk would be a gross failure in public health management. Denying trans women, and particularly young trans girls, the opportunity to engage with their community and learn the valuable lessons of team sports is discriminatory and unconscionable.
