I oppose Action 4905

I live in Prince William County and I oppose Action 4905.

It does not make sense for the Board of Health to completely ignore public health issues that women and girls in Virginia are actually facing—like poverty, reproductive healthcare access, intimate partner violence, and more. This petition enables harmful discrimination toward ALL women.

Due to ideas and stereotypes on how women “should” look (petite, a high-pitched voice, an hourglass figure, and long hair), if a woman walks into a bathroom or locker room and does NOT meet those stereotypes, then she is at risk of harassment, violence, or police brutality.

  • A woman that is over 6 feet tall who plays basketball and has an athletic build
  • A young, pre-pubescent girl with a pixie haircut and a naturally alto voice
  • A teenager who doesn’t have an hour glass figure, or who doesn’t wear makeup and feminine clothing
  • A woman experiencing chemotherapy-induced hair loss who shaved her head, or who naturally has alopecia, and doesn’t wear a wig
  • A butch or androgynous lesbian with short hair and broad shoulders

These women and girls exist across all races and backgrounds. Therefore, discriminatory policies that seek to limit the rights of transgender women and girls will always harm ALL women and girls.
