I support the amendment allowing non licensed individuals to place catheters under proper supervision. Prior to my current position, I practiced as a veterinarian in a rural town. There were no licensed technicians at the clinic and on certain days of the week, I was the only doctor at the clinic. To limit this skill to licensed technicians only is not a possibility at many places, especially in smaller areas. There are simply not enough licensed technicians available in the state to satisfy the number of veterinary clinics. I will also add that through my experience, I have met several unlicensed properly trained individuals whom are just as experienced in placing IV catheters, if not more so than some licensed technicians.
