It is my understanding that there is a dispute over whether professional counselors should be required to have completed a CACREP/CORE program. There are several reasons why I advocate for the implementation of this amendment. With this accreditation, there is a reassurance of quality in services. It will be easier to identify the role of professional counselors and their qualifications. The requirements of a CACREP/CORE program are more vigorous than a non accredited program, therefore it prepares students better to work in a professional counseling setting. Implementing this will not only provide better services, but the counselors who work hard to serve you will be held at a higher standard and will be noted for it
I think that this amendment should not impact anyone who is currently pursuing their professional counseling degree or who work in that setting already. However, I do feel as though it is something that is important to implement for the future in our counseling services, both for the clients and the counselors.
