As a registered Dental Hygienist with over 30 years experience, I am adamantly opposed to allowing Dental Assistants to scale teeth.  Allowing this will lower the standards of care that our patients deserve.  A good Dental Assistant is a very valuable asset to the dental profession, but scaling teeth needs to be left to the expertise of highly trained and knowledgeable Dental Hygienists.
