Filing the Objective Written Documentation form was incredibly confusing. I had to seek outside help, which cost us time and money that should have gone toward caring for my child. The process to prove that I was the best person to care for my child was dehumanizing. Despite years of documented needs, it felt like the system doubted me every step of the way. My child’s condition is lifelong. Forcing us to submit documentation every time feels like they don’t recognize the permanence of his disabilities. Going back to this cumbersome process is like reliving the trauma of justifying my child’s every need. It’s unfair to put this burden on already overwhelmed families. Every moment spent on paperwork takes me away from being present with my child. We don’t need more barriers between us and the care they deserve.
