HB909/SB488 (2024)

My son has been traumatized by past experiences with unfamiliar caregivers. As their parent, I provide a safe and trusted environment where they feel secure. Forcing us to use an outside aide first disregards the emotional trauma and fear my child has experienced. I should be the first choice to continue providing the safe care they need.

The support from HB909/SB488 has been vital in allowing me to protect my child from further trauma. The Virginia General Assembly's actions have ensured that my child can remain in a familiar and comforting environment. Changing these provisions would ignore the psychological needs of my child and could lead to further emotional harm.

The current waiver draft could expose my child to caregivers who may unintentionally trigger their past trauma, resulting in emotional distress. This would not only undo our progress in their mental health and well-being but also potentially lead to a regression in their recovery.
