Each year communities lose power when power lines are damaged and broken during extreme weather events, vehicle collisions, ice accumulation, etc.
Each year millions of dollars are spent repairing the damage. Also each year, power companies pay (i.e. we pay) to have the trees and shrubs cleared from around power lines.
By burying the power lines we dramatically lower the cost and effort required to maintain the power lines. In addition, we will have far fewer power outages. This results in lower electricity costs for Virginians (Goal#1) and, for a few years, should increase job opportunities burying the lines (Goal#2).
