As a hygiene student, I feel like allowing a dental assistant to perform tasks that hygienists have trained for years to perform is not considering the patient's best interest. Subgingival scaling requires more education and practice than DA II offers. I feel surely that if asked, the patient would request a more trained professional. I hope the board will consider what's at stake if an untrained hand takes on these tasks. Thank you for your serious consideration.
