I’d like to say that I am strongly against the board of health’s new proposed regulations on gender spaces in sports. This moral panic over trans people just trying to live their lives is disgraceful to our state. The idea that people need to prove their birth gender to go into everyday spaces is absurd, it’s the most intrusive government intervention possible, and denying trans children the right to participate in school sports is just hurtful. The importance of sports to nearly every child isn’t to decide who is the best in the state, it’s to provide them with fun exercise, time with their friends, and an engaging hobby. The right has whipped up this absurd frenzy over sports that is completely out of proportion to the harm being done. It’s gone far enough.
