The 5 C’s are more important now than ever before. I have a child in elementary school and one in middle school and want them to have exposure to critical thinking, communication, collaboration, citizenship and creative thinking beyond what I can provide and there is no safer place to do that than school. I am confident the VA curriculum and standards review will ensure these skills are fostered in the classroom environment. I am not sure why there are so many comments about the SEL curriculum but to throw my two cents in, I think it is wonderful and an extremely valuable addition to my children’s learning. Just like they learn to read, write, count and spell, they need skills on coping in this world and that includes stress and self management, social and equity awareness and relationship and empathy building. These are all muscles we need to exercise. Keep up the good work.
