It is not the place of the government or public school teacher to instill morals into our children. Believe it or not, the people of VA do not want the government raising our children. We would like them to teach math, science, grammar, foreign language, history, physical education, music, etc. But anything that dips its goes into morality and ethics needs to be left out of state sponsored curriculum. How dare you tell a child what is morally right or wrong, when it may fly in the face of their religious views. Please remember, the public school child is NOT being raised by the state. The state does not have a monopoly on what is right and wrong in this world, and when it does begin behaving in a way that assumes it’s own views are the only truth, we end up with societies ripe with prejudice, persecution and violence. This is wholly unAmerican, and truly disturbing. You are creating an environment pushing groupthink, and it is VERY unhealthy for the emotional well being of its members. Stay in your lane, VDOE. Do a better job on the basics that we’ve hired you to teach, and leave moral policing of thoughts out of the equation. Our schools are failing in the basics, and you’re here trying to force teachers to be the thought police? Super inappropriate. Not only will you continue to lose families out of the public schools, but you’ll lose valuable teachers who have had enough of the retraining courses and sociopolitical agendas. Remember that in this country, the government works FOR the people. And the people do NOT approve of these pervasive moralistic and political messages in the classroom. Get your agendas out of the way of our teachers and let them teach.
