Evidence based, comprehensive, clear
As a researcher who works in the field of gender affirming care for young adults, I was pleased to see this thoughtful, evidence-based proposal for how schools can support gender diverse youth. Youth who have access to supportive environments, safe environments, and environments where they know they can access support in times of crisis are more likely to be able to thrive. For some youth who do not have parental support, school can be the only safe place for them to be themselves. For others, school is a part of living a whole and healthy life. This protocol is clear and comprehensive. It addresses the needs of both gender diverse and cisgender students by seeking to eliminate gender-related barriers to successful education. I strongly support the implementation of this policy and believe it could be a model policy for other state boards of education.
