Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

About the proposed transgender policy for Virginia schools, I am 1,000% against it.

There is this proposal to totally change and accept transgender students as normal. These children are still in formation and too young to decide about such an important issue. Wait until they are 18 years old before deciding something of such importance. If it is all that important to them, let them pay for all treatments, surgeries, etc. to make the change.  I am the mother of three, grandmother of four. I would never have let my children make such a momentous decision at a young age. When they are old enough to vote is a beginning. And do not make everyone else accept them as normal for making such a change. In America these days it seems the greatest sin is the sin of "intolerance" and if I don't accept whatever you decide, something is wrong with me. Why can't you accept my ideas and ideals as being as valid as yours? This whole transgender phenomenon is a recent development. Let's not rush to embrace it.
