support for catheter placement by lay employees

For many years, rescue squad personnel from many backgrounds have been allowed to place intravenous catheters in human patients. There have been occasions when the use of lay personnel to implace IV catheters into veterinary patients would have been quite useful and possibly life-saving. I do think this should be done with a licensed veterinarian on premises and under direct veterinary supervision.  Lock Boyce, DVM
